ACTIVE VOICE AND PASSIVE VOICE

Active Voice : Active voice emphasises on the subject of the sentence where the subject acts.

Example:

Charlie washes the clothes.

In the above example, the subject Charlie acts.

Passive Voice : Passive voice emphasises on the object of the sentence or the work done.

Example:

The clothes are washed by Charlie.

In the above example, the emphasize is on the object clothes.

RULES FOR CONVERTING ACTIVE VOICE INTO PASSIVE VOICE OR PASSIVE VOICE INTO ACTIVE VOICE.

Present Indefinite Tense

Active Sentence

Subject + first form of Verb + Object.

Passive Sentence

Object + is/are/am(according to object) + third form of Verb + by + Subject.

Example:

Active Voice : Olive brings the books for children.

Passive Voice : The books for children are brought by Olive.

Past Indefinite Tense

Active Sentence

Subject + second form of Verb + Object.

Passive Sentence

Object + was/were(according to object) + third form of Verb + by + Subject.

Example:

Active Voice : Olive brought the books for children.

Passive Voice : The books for children were brought by Olive.

Future Indefinite Tense

Active Sentence

Subject + will/shall + first form of Verb + Object.

Passive Sentence

Object + will/shall(according to object) + be + third form of Verb + by + Subject.

Example:

Active Voice : Olive will bring the books for children.

Passive Voice : The books for children will be brought by Olive.
