The repetition of a noun in a sentence or set of sentences is really boring. Therefore, Grammar prescribes that instead of repeating the noun, we may use a word(for that noun) called pronoun. Personal Pronoun
There are many kinds of Pronouns and we'll study the Personal Pronoun first. So, a pronoun which is used instead of the name of a person is known as a Personal Pronoun.
Please study some following rules for the behaviour of Personal Pronouns carefully:
- When two or more singular nouns are joined by and, the pronoun used for them should be plural.
- But if the nouns joined by and refer to the same person or thing, the pronoun used should be singular.
- When two singular nouns joined by and refer to the same person, or thing, the pronoun used should be singular.
- When two singular nouns joined by and refer to two different persons and each preceded by an article, the pronoun used for them should also be plural.
- When two nouns are joined by as well as, the pronoun agrees with the first subject.
- When two singular nouns joined and are preceded by each or every, the pronoun used must be singular and should agree in gender with the second noun.
- The pronoun coming after than must be in the same case as that coming before than.
