SYNONYMS

 

Synonym is a word or phrase that have exactly or almost the same meaning as another word or phrase or two words that can be interchanged in a context are said to be synonymous relative to that context.

For example, the synonyms for word "All" is "total" or "whole" or "gross".

In above example, the words in quotation marks can be interchangeably used relative to a context.

These words simply convey a meaning similar to the given word.

Here are some more examples of Synonyms:

1: Burnished: polished, sleek, glossy.

2: Divine: holy, sacred, sanctified.

3: Dislike: loathing, disaffection, disfavor.

4: First: initial, foremost, primary.

5: Zero: nil, nothing, cipher.

 

Guidelines : 

In the given quiz, the candidate is required to spot synonyms. Here, the word for which candidate is required to find synonym; has been used in the sentence and given in quotation marks. The sentences are followed by four options. Out of those, the candidate is required to select the one which comes nearest in meaning to the word in quotation marks in the particular context.
